Law enforcement officials have identified the three people killed during an active shooter attack at an In-N-Out restaurant in Twin Falls, Idaho, on Saturday, Aug. 1, 2026. The victims include a 66-year-old resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, as the FBI and local agencies continue to support families through a dedicated assistance center established following the violence.
Victims Identified
The Twin Falls Police Department, in coordination with the Twin Falls County Coroner's Office and the Twin Falls County Prosecutor's Office, released the identities of the deceased on Aug. 4, 2026. The victims have been identified as Ashley Garibay, 23, of Stockton, California; Dale Schultz, 66, of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Christopher Claunch, 59, of Hagerman, Idaho.
Community Support Efforts
The release of the names follows the completion of identification procedures and the notification of next of kin by the Twin Falls County Coroner's Office. Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks stated that the department's primary concern is providing support, resources, and timely information to the 10 immediate families directly affected by the tragedy. Hicks emphasized that these families are experiencing an unimaginable loss or have injured family members, and they deserve compassion, privacy, and every available measure of assistance from partner agencies.
Details of the Attack
The shooting occurred at 2:29 p.m. on Saturday at the In-N-Out located on 1965 Blue Lakes Boulevard North. The restaurant had recently opened for the first time on July 24. According to Chief Hicks, the suspect was identified as 24-year-old Chad Williams, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene.
Casualties and Impact
The incident resulted in three fatalities and seven injuries. Of those injured, two were treated and released from the hospital, three remained in stable condition, and two were in critical condition following the attack. In-N-Out President Lynsi Snyder confirmed via social media that one of the victims was a female employee of the new location. Snyder described the loss of the associate as a devastating act by someone who does not value the lives of others.
Law Enforcement Response
During the incident, an off-duty Idaho state trooper and a private citizen both fired weapons in an attempt to stop the shooter. Chief Hicks stated that their actions helped drive the suspect away from the scene, preventing further casualties. Additionally, Hicks confirmed that a second officer-involved shooting occurred in the minutes after law enforcement arrived and began searching for the suspect. The actions of a Twin Falls Police officer involved in that second shooting are currently being reviewed by the Jerome Police Office.
Federal Assistance
The FBI has mobilized significant resources to assist the Twin Falls Police Department. Robert Bowles, an FBI special agent at the Salt Lake City Office in charge of Utah and Idaho, said the bureau has deployed investigative and intelligence tools, as well as evidence response teams and victim services specialists. The FBI's Victim Services Division is working through its Victim Services Response Team (VSRT), a multi-disciplinary group of agents, analysts, and specialists trained to provide crisis assistance following mass violence incidents.
Family Assistance Center Services
A Family Assistance Center (FAC) was established at Sawtooth Elementary School, located at 1771 Stadium Blvd., to provide a centralized location for survivors and loved ones. The center offered services on Aug. 4 and Aug. 5, 2026, including assistance from the American Red Cross, mental health support, Crime Victims Compensation, and spiritual care. The FBI also established a victim information form for those seeking to request personal items left at the scene or requesting assistance from FBI victim specialists.
