USU Eastern has teamed up with Intermontain Electronics to provide paid internships in the electrical and welding fields. The program is designed to allow participants to jumpstart careers in in-demand industries while maintaining a classic college experience.
Internship requirements and pay
No prior experience is required for the 90-day internship. Participants will earn college credits through on-site coursework conducted at Intermountain Electronics.
Eligibility and hourly wages
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have graduated from high school or obtained a GED before the first day of the internship. Those accepted into the program will earn a minimum of $14 per hour, with potential for more based on qualifications and experience.
Tuition, housing, and meal benefits
The program covers 100% of USU tuition and fees for internship courses. Additionally, the internship includes housing in the Tucker or Burtenshaw Residence Halls and a meal plan consisting of 160 swipes. While transportation from campus to Intermountain Electronics is not covered, there are no costs associated with acceptance into the program.
Work schedules and holiday policy
Interns typically follow a work schedule of Monday through Thursday from 6:00 am to 3:30 pm and Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm. Interns will follow the Intermountain Electronics holiday schedule rather than the university schedule.
Important dates and application process
The Fall semester begins August 31, 2026, and the Spring semester begins January 11, 2027. Because space is limited each semester, applicants are encouraged to apply through the USU Admissions Application and the Intermountain Electronics employment application.
Alternative paths for admitted students
Students who are not accepted into the internship but are admitted to USU remain welcome to pursue other technical education and degree programs available at USU Eastern.
