In a series of notices posted to the Salt Lake City Council District 1 website, several municipal updates were provided regarding infrastructure, budgeting, and community planning. The updates included information on road closures, city budget adoption, and various regional development projects.
According to a notice on the district's site, 600/700 North will be closed in both directions between Riverside Drive and 1600 West starting January 5. The Jordan River Trail will also face a closure between 500 and 800 North. This closure is expected to continue through June 2026 while crews work to repair a bridge.
In a separate update, the Salt Lake City Council adopted the $2.1 billion Fiscal Year 2026-27 (FY27) budget on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. The approved spending plan focuses on public safety, essential services, neighborhood infrastructure, and financial stewardship.
Additionally, the Council is currently reviewing updates to the Northwest Community Plan. The draft plan aims to establish a 15-year vision for the area and connect local growth to Plan Salt Lake.

Utah DOT and Patriot Rail’s Salt Lake, Garfield & Western Railway have broken ground on a new $31 million West Interchange. This project aims to reduce congestion on the Westside by ending train switching movements in Poplar Grove.
The Council previously approved a request to temporarily close streets near the Salt Lake Temple from March to October 2027 to accommodate the Temple’s reopening.
Salt Lake City’s West-East Connections Study (WE Connect) is working to identify solutions to improve connectivity between the west and east sides of the city.
The district bulletin board also noted the Council's approval of zoning changes and a street vacation related to the construction of the new West High School. Furthermore, the Council approved a proposal to annex land along 2200 West in the Northpoint area, moving the land from Salt Lake County to the City.
