The Ferron City Council met on July 15, 2026, to address several municipal matters, including the adoption of a regional disaster mitigation plan and updates on city infrastructure projects. During the meeting, the council approved Resolution 2026-7.15 to adopt the Emery County Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan. According to Mayor Jackson, this 432-page plan requires participation from all municipalities within the county to ensure collective eligibility for emergency assistance and federal or state grant funds.
Regarding land acquisition, Council Member Ray Petersen reported that Ferron City received a final letter from the Bureau of Land Management confirming the completion of a review process for a 157-acre parcel. The transaction, which has been in development for eight years, is on track to be finalized by August 11, 2026, if the city pays the $173,000 purchase price.
In matters of public safety and infrastructure, the council approved the purchase of four electronic radar speed signs for Mill Road, 200 East, Junior High Road, and potentially Bench Road. While Council Member Petersen supported the purchase, Council Member Vance Brown expressed opposition due to costs and a preference against electronic signs. Additionally, the council approved a proposal for maintenance staff uniforms, establishing a $1,000 budget that includes seasonal shirts and annual work boot replacements.
Preparations for the 125th annual Peach Days celebration were outlined by Council Member Kellee Singleton. The event will be held at Mayors Park and will include a cornhole tournament, a dessert contest, and live entertainment. Singleton noted that this year's celebration will not feature horse races or mud bogs.
Other reports included updates from the Fire Department regarding recent wildfire deployments and the success of a recent fundraiser. The Mayor also addressed recent park vandalism, stating the city intends to press charges to the fullest extent of the law, and noted that the new Ferron Event Center will be equipped with security cameras to help curb such incidents.
The council also discussed the potential hiring of temporary maintenance workers using available C Funds and the evaluation of a replacement truck for the maintenance department. The meeting concluded with the approval of city warrants.
