In a message posted to the Weber State University website, Brian Rague, PhD, Dean of the College of Engineering, Applied Science and Technology (EAST), welcomed the 3,000 students within the college to the new academic year.
Rague noted that EAST faculty and staff are prepared to support students through active learning, student-focused classrooms, and labs designed to keep pace with rapid technological changes.
The dean addressed the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a significant disruption in technology and society. Rague stated that students have the agency to control their own futures and can use their education to shape what that future looks like.
According to Rague, a degree in technology, computer science, or engineering offers a durable return on investment and a stable career that evolves with industry demands. He emphasized that EAST aims to provide students with fluency in AI technologies and platforms, noting that AI is a tool that students can master to ensure technologies remain human-centered.
Rague expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming year of collaboration and the opportunity for students to increase their expertise and earning power in innovative technology disciplines.
