Smithfield Canyon Road was scheduled for closure beginning August 31, 2026, for approximately six weeks to accommodate construction for a new Smithfield City waterline. The closure, located at approximately 2600 East, was scheduled to occur Monday through Thursday.
The closure affects access to the National Forest and recreation areas in Smithfield Canyon and limits the ability of large vehicles to turn around in the canyon. While the road was scheduled to be closed Monday through Thursday, it was scheduled to remain open on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day.
During weekends, motorists were encouraged to plan ahead and allow additional travel time. Traffic was expected to be reduced to a single lane through active work zones as construction progresses up the canyon. Those recreating in the canyon were advised to use caution, as access through active work zones may be temporarily restricted or delayed. Users were instructed to follow all posted signs, barricades, and instructions from construction personnel while remaining alert for construction equipment operating along the roadway.
For questions regarding how the closure affects residents, individuals may contact Clay Bodily with Smithfield City at 435-792-7995.
