The Center for Constitutional Studies at Utah Valley University provides educational initiatives designed to foster an understanding of the thought and practices necessary for the perpetion of ordered liberty, constitutional government, and the rule of law.
Undergraduate academic programs
The Center facilitates various academic programs, such as a Constitutional Studies minor through the Department of History and Political Science. This undergraduate minor includes coursework regarding the foundations of American constitutionalism and the development of the U.S. Constitution.
Graduate level studies
The Center's academic offerings extend to graduate studies through the Master of Arts in Constitutional Government, Civics & Law. This program is intended to prepare scholars, professionals, and educators by focusing on key texts in American political history.
K-12 literacy initiatives
In addition to university-level programs, the K-12 Constitutional Literacy Initiative brings hundreds of high school students to campus annually for conferences. This initiative also established the CCS Constitutional Literacy Institute to improve the pedagogy and constitutional knowledge of secondary-school teachers.
Recent research grants received
The Center has recently been recognized with significant research grants, including $160,000 from the Carnegie Corporation to strengthen youth civic engagement. Additionally, the Center received a $350,000 grant from the National Archives for the digital modeling of state constitutions.
Upcoming scheduled events
Upcoming and past scheduled events include the First Amendment Conference held on March 25, 2026, and a wind-symphony concert hosted with the School of the Arts on April 20, 2026. The Center and CTLI are also set to celebrate America's 250th anniversary in 2026.
Student scholarship opportunities
Financial support for students is available through the Rebecca D. Lockhart Scholarship for current CCS students, as well as the CCS Graduate Support Scholarship for juniors and seniors applying to graduate school.
