The Summit County Library has introduced its 2026 Kid's Summer Reading Challenge, themed Unearth a Story. The program encourages children to read for 50 days throughout the summer, allowing participants to track progress via pages, minutes, or books.
Earning Prizes and Tracking Progress
Participants can earn 10 tickets for every 10 days of reading, which are redeemable for various prizes. Library patrons can use a paper tracker from the library or the Beanstack app to monitor their progress.
Interactive Summer Events and Reptile Shows
The summer lineup includes several interactive events, such as reptile shows designed to kick off the reading program. These shows feature scales and tails and provide information regarding Summer Reading plans and swag bag pick-ups for families with children of all ages.
Reptile Show Schedule and Locations
Scheduled reptile show locations included Coalville at Ledges Event Center on June 2, Kamas Valley on June 5, and Kimball Junction on June 9.
Preschool Dino-Council Story Time Details
Other scheduled programming includes Dino-Council Story Times, which feature picture books, songs, and crafts for preschool-aged children. These sessions are held in Coalville on Wednesdays, Kamas Valley on Fridays, and at Matt Knoop Park in Kimball Junction on Wednesdays.
Stomp-A-Saurus Program for Toddlers
For younger patrons, the library is hosting Stomp-A-Saurus Time, featuring rhymes and seasonal songs for children aged 0-3 and their caregivers. This program runs on Thursdays in Coalville, Tuesdays in Kamas Valley, and Thursdays in Kimball Junction.
Tiny Dino Open Play Sessions
Additionally, Tiny Dino Play Time offers drop-in open play with toys like blocks and trucks for children aged 0-5. These sessions are held on Wednesdays in both Coalville and Kamas Valley, and on Tuesdays in Kimball Junction.
Bilingual Story Time, titled ¡Los Dinosaurios Hablan Español!, will be available for all ages at the Kimball Junction location on June 26 and July 17.
