Evacuations are underway on Beaver Mountain due to the Cottonwood Fire, which began near Mile Marker 5 on SR-153. According to the Beaver County Sheriff's Office, all residents and visitors from Hi-Lo Cabins up to Kent Lake have been evacuated from the area.
SR-153 is currently closed from Mile Marker 3 to the top of the mountain. Officials have requested that the public do not attempt to travel into the area to allow emergency personnel to respond safely.
Summer homes located in Eagle Point and Merchant Valley have been placed on notice, though these areas are not under active evacuation orders at this time. Anyone remaining on the mountain who requires evacuation must travel east into Piute County.
The Cottonwood Fire is currently estimated at 97,458 acres and is 77% contained. The U.S. Forest Service is managing the incident within the Fishlake National Forest. Officials advise the public to continue monitoring official sources for updates as conditions may change rapidly.
