BYU head coach Kalani Sitake provided injury updates on October 12 ahead of the team's Week 7 game against Notre Dame. The updates included the status of several key contributors who were absent during the previous game against the Iowa State Cyclones.
Sitake stated that running back LJ Martin would not be ready for the upcoming contest. This aligns with previous reporting from ESPN's Pete Thamel, which indicated the star running back would be out for four to six weeks.
In contrast, Sitake said he thinks nickel and returner Cannon DeVries will be back in the lineup, providing a key piece for coverage and special teams. Additionally, junior linebacker Siale Esera, who has dealt with injuries early in the season, played a portion of the game against Iowa State and is expected to be ready for the matchup against the Cyclones.
The status of safety Raider Damuni remains a possibility for return after he practiced throughout last week. Damuni previously left the season opener against Utah Tech due to injury.
Regarding linebacker Isaiah Glasker, Sitake advised that Glasker should not be counted out despite his uncertain status. This follows comments from defensive coordinator Kelly Poppinga, who noted that Glasker's leg injury was similar to an injury that previously forced Damuni to miss four games.
Glasker has been described as the heartbeat of the defense, providing veteran leadership at the second level. While backup Jake Clifton has filled in for the position, Glasker's return would be significant as the Cougars prepare to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish offense.
