Lieutenant Governor Deidre Henderson visited Mt. Loafer Elementary on Oct. 5, 2026, to celebrate literacy as part of a statewide Utah read-a-thon. Henderson joined local school officials in a classroom session to promote the joy of reading among students.
Classroom Story Time
During the visit to Mrs. Hunter's classroom, Henderson participated in a special story time session with students. She was joined by Nebo School District Superintendent Rick Nielsen and Principal Valerio to engage with the class.
Celebrating Literacy
The event, held on Oct. 5, 2026, saw students reading various materials, including picture books and chapter books. According to Mt. Loafer Elementary, the classroom environment included students settled in with books while teachers also shared their favorite stories.
Districtwide Participation
The statewide initiative also included participation from other district leaders. Elementary Education Director Dave Rowe visited Maple Ridge Elementary to join students in celebrating the shared love of reading, according to a Nebo School District announcement on Oct. 6, 2026.
Promoting Reading for Pleasure
The read-a-thon served as a community event intended to highlight reading as an enjoyable activity rather than just a school practice, according to officials at Mt. Loafer Elementary.
