The Cedar City Arts Council and the Iron County Heritage Livestock Council are hosting the annual K-12 Heritage Art Competition, according to a September 2 statement. The competition invites students to showcase their skills through various mediums while celebrating personal and local history.
The competition features two categories for submissions: 2D/3D visual art mediums and photography. Cash awards will be presented to the first, second, and third place juried submissions within the elementary, middle school, and high school grade levels.
Participants are encouraged to theme their artwork toward their own personal heritage. This may include students with significant family history in the Iron County area or those who use their knowledge of their own family history regardless of their location.
Past participants have submitted various works, including graphite portraits of grandparents, paintings of Southern Utah outdoor locations, or drawings of foreign countries related to family genealogy. Other examples include art of family cabins in Cedar Mountain, tributes to family veterans, depictions of Southern Utah plants or animals, and photographs of local farms and livestock.
To be considered for judging and awards, all submissions must be delivered by October 15.
