Lone Peak's girls cross country team claimed the girls team championship at the Border Wars meet on Sunday, Sept. 13, at Valley Regional Park in Taylorsville, according to a report published Sept. 14. The Knights finished with 27 points, securing a 65-point margin over second-place Davis.
Senior Maya Bybee led the Knights to victory with a first-place finish in 18:05.67. Bybee, who was ranked No. 38 nationally in DyeStat's early-season top 100, previously won the UIAAA Invitational in 17:32.5. Lone Peak senior Hailey Atwater placed third with a time of 18:26.75.
The Knights placed five runners in the top 18, including Camille Shields in 10th, Paityn Rohatinsky in 13th, and Tatum Brewer in 16th. Teagan Harris finished 24th. Other top finishers included Brighton junior Bridget Smit in second and Highland's Lena Buccambuso in 14th. Lehi's Laney Martin finished 20th, contributing to a fourth-place team finish for Lehi with 153 points.
In the boys race, Lehi narrowly defeated Davis by two points, scoring 60 to 62. Davis senior Harrison Skousen won the individual title with a time of 15:42.34. Lone Peak senior Caden Bybee finished third overall in 15:56.49.
Lehi's runners included Owen McMullin in fourth, Everett Quist in eighth, Brayden Barlow in ninth, and Milo Amakasu in 21st. Davis countered the Lehi victory with four runners in the top 21.
The Deseret News described the Knights' performance as one of its most impressive of the season.
