The Utah State Correctional Facility implemented changes to its main visiting schedule beginning June 1, 2026. The update was designed to accommodate the opening of the Bear 3 housing unit and the implementation of tiered housing.
To integrate Bear 3 into the existing structure while maintaining current hours, a rotating weekend schedule for in-person visits was established. Under this plan, in-person visits continued on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, with each day including four housing units. One housing unit rotated out of the schedule on each of these days.
As part of the tiered housing structure, Bear 1, Bear 2, and Bear 3 units alternated which unit was not scheduled each day. Meanwhile, Bear 4 and Green units maintained consistent weekend visiting access to align with tiered housing incentives.
Evening in-person visits from Monday through Thursday continued as normal, though adjustments were made to accommodate the addition of Bear 3 to the rotation.
The Utah Department of Corrections noted that these changes were made to minimize disruption to visitation for families and offenders. Visitors were encouraged to review updated calendars on the UDC website or at the visiting desk to ensure they arrived on the correct day for their assigned housing unit.
Standard procedures require visitors to be approved and make appointments in advance. The department emphasized that email serves as the primary communication method, particularly due to staffing shortages affecting phone availability.
The facility remains committed to maintaining accessible visiting opportunities while supporting ongoing housing updates. Visitors must also adhere to specific dress standards, such as avoiding clothing with hoods, tank tops, or ripped jeans, to ensure access to the facility.
