In a report published August 3, Cedar City announced a Redevelopment Agency work meeting scheduled for August 5, 2026. The meeting will focus on considering bids for Phase 3 of the South Main Street Lighting Improvements project.
The third phase of the lighting project involves installing 11 new street lights on both sides of Main Street. This phase will begin at the intersection of Cedar Knolls and South Main Street and continue south to Cedar Boulevard. Funding for the project is currently held in the RDA fund.
Cedar City received three bids for the project. Silver Sage Construction submitted the low bid of $281,700.00. Other bids were submitted by Doug Hunt Construction Inc at $296,500.00 and Advanced Construction and Design LLC at $302,420.00.
Staff noted that Silver Sage Construction is not on the City's official plan holders list. While city website policy states that bidders not on the list are not allowed to bid, the requirement was not found in the bid documents. Consequently, staff recommended that this informality be waived. If the bid is awarded, it would be contingent upon the contractor providing required insurance, bonding, immigration status verification, and authorization for the Mayor to sign the agreement.
The proposed budget for the South Main Street Lighting Project Phase 3 includes a construction contract for $281,700, materials testing for $1,500, an estimated RMP service extension of $10,500, and $20,000 for miscellaneous contingencies. The total estimated expenses are $313,700, drawn from a $350,000 RDA fund account.
