High school football is heating up on the Western Slope as week two of the season concludes, according to a September 5 report from KJCT8.
In a Grand Valley rivalry matchup, Fruita Monument shut out Central 19-0. Defenders Justice Gates and Sam Graves led a Wildcats defense that prevented Central from scoring throughout the game. Cooper Skalla contributed a rushing touchdown in the first half to help Fruita Monument secure the win. Fruita Monument is scheduled to play Grand Junction next week, while Central travels to Steamboat Springs seeking its first win of the season.
Delta defeated Glenwood Springs 42-0 in the Panthers' first home game of the season. Under coach Todd Casebier, Delta improved to a 3-0 record. Running back Mack Lockhart scored two touchdowns during the game.
Olathe defeated Gunnison 19-14 at Wilson Field to snap a four-game losing streak against the Cowboys. This victory marks the Pirates' first win over Gunnison since 2017. Bridger Vincent scored a rushing touchdown on the team's opening drive following a downfield completion. Olathe improved to 2-0 and will play at Ignacio next week.
