University of Utah Health has named Vivek K. Reddy, MD, MMM, as its Chief Health Informatics Officer. The appointment is set to take effect on July 1, 2026.
Reddy's new permanent role
Reddy has been serving as the interim chief health informatics officer since May 2024. In this permanent role, he will provide strategic clinical leadership for the use of health information technology across the health system, focusing on safety, effectiveness, and innovation.
Strategic responsibilities and AI integration
In his new capacity, Reddy will collaborate with leaders in clinical, operational, quality, and digital sectors to advance informatics strategy. His responsibilities include optimizing clinical workflows and documentation, guiding technology-enabled improvements in care delivery, and supporting the integration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence into clinical practice.
Goals for digital innovation
Reddy aims to align digital investments with organizational priorities to improve the clinician experience, strengthen data governance, and ensure technology supports patient-centered care. He stated that he looks forward to advancing innovations that strengthen care delivery while keeping patients and care teams at the center of operations.
Leadership endorsement of appointment
Erica Bisson, MD, who serves as system associate chief clinical officer and system chief medical officer for University of Utah Health, noted that Reddy brings a combination of clinical expertise and strategic vision. She stated that his leadership will help ensure digital transformation and AI-enabled innovation efforts remain grounded in quality, safety, and measurable value.
Professional history at University of Utah
Reddy joined the University of Utah Health in 2019. His previous roles within the organization include executive vice chair and vice chair of strategy in the Department of Neurology, as well as serving on the Medical Records Committee, Credentials Committee, and Digital Enablement Committee. He also served as both inpatient and outpatient chief value officer for neurology.
Previous leadership and informatics experience
Before his time at University of Utah Health, Reddy was the chief health information officer for Intermountain Health and held senior informatics leadership positions at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Reddy is a board-certified neurologist and vascular neurologist who also holds board certification in clinical informatics. He was a recipient of the inaugural EHR Game Changers Award for his work in advancing electronic health records.
He earned his MD from Drexel University College of Medicine, completed his neurology residency and fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, and holds a Master of Medical Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
