Salt Lake County Library offered several educational programs on Monday, June 15, including citizenship preparation classes in South Jordan and archaeology-themed STEAM activities in West Jordan.
Citizenship preparation classes
In partnership with the English Skills Learning Center, a citizenship class was held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in South Jordan to prepare permanent residents for the citizenship exam. The English Skills Learning Center offers these classes for free to all interested and qualified individuals.
Interactive sessions for young children
For younger audiences, the library provided multiple interactive sessions throughout the day. A 'Baby and me Storytime' featuring singing and reading took place in Kearns from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., while Riverton hosted a 'Baby Rave Playtime Fun' event for toddlers during the same hour.
Themed learning programs for kids
Children and tweens participated in themed learning programs, including 'Marvelous Mondays - Archaeology Adventures' in West Jordan from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., which featured activities tied to the 'Unearth a Story' summer reading program. Additionally, Taylorsville hosted an express scavenger hunt where participants searched for hidden dinosaurs to win prizes.
Distribution of specialized activity kits
The library also distributed specialized materials across the county. All Ability Activity Kits, designed for teens and adults with intellectual disabilities, were available in Magna and Draper; the dinosaur-themed kits included craft instructions and coloring pages. In Taylorsville, patrons could also pick up dinosaur-themed clothespin crafts while supplies lasted.
