The Mining Education Program at Utah State University Eastern provides non-credit training opportunities for potential and current miners. The program aims to serve the industry by offering training designed to improve programs that contribute to saving lives and preventing accidents.
Upcoming Summer Training Sessions
Several upcoming training sessions are scheduled for the summer of 2026. An Underground New Miner and Surface New Miner combined course is available from July 6-10, 2026, at a cost of $250. This 36-hour session covers mining methods, mine gases, ventilation, first aid, and equipment.
Specific Courses and Refresher Options
Other specific sessions include a Surface New Miner course running July 28-30, 2026, for $150, and an Underground New Miner course held from July 6-9, 2026, for $200. Additionally, Annual Refresher courses are scheduled for June 5 and July 2, 2026, at a cost of $80 for active miners.
Instructor Training Opportunities
A Train the Trainer course is also available from July 21-23, 2026, for $300, where students study teaching techniques and MSHA required forms.
Electrical Certification Programs
The program also offers specialized electrical training, though no dates are currently scheduled for the Initial Electrical course or the Electrical Recertification course. The Initial Electrical course costs $290 and prepares students for the Utah State Mine Electrician Certification test.
Class Rules and Registration Details
All classes are set to begin at 8:00 am sharp, and cell phones are not permitted in new miner classes. Registration is limited, and each attendee must complete an individual registration form.
Location and Corporate Training Info
The training takes place at the Western Instruction Building (WIB) Classroom #132, located at 500 North 100 East in Price, Utah. Corporate classes are also available for specific company employees.
