The Crimson Cliffs Mustangs, the defending 4A state football champions, secured their fifth consecutive victory with a dominant 55-20 win over Hurricane. The victory moves the Mustangs to a 6-2 record and 4-0 in Region 9 play.
The Mustangs' offense was highly productive, driven by a roster containing nearly 40 seniors. Early scoring included a 40-yard toss-sweep by Malakai Alofipo, a 20-yard touchdown pass from Ryder Sherratt to Jaxson Holt, and a 20-yard rushing touchdown by McCord Christiansen. Sherratt also connected with Alofipo on an 8-yard touchdown pass. Christiansen added a 10-yard touchdown run and a 12-yard pass from Sherratt to finalize the scoring. Hurricane's scoring came from Austyn McRoberts, who recorded two touchdown kick returns, and a 10-yard touchdown pass from Dylyn Gabriel to Brody Jacobs.
Desert Hills secured a 27-7 road victory against Snow Canyon. Despite an early 36-yard touchdown pass from Brody Lounsbury to JT Westbrook that gave the Warriors a lead, Desert Hills responded with 27 unanswered points. Senior quarterback Gerritt Grondel contributed with both a passing and a rushing touchdown, including a 57-yard scoring strike to Austin Wintle. Desert Hills' defense prevented any scoring from Snow Canyon in the second half.
In Cedar City, Dixie outlasted Cedar 35-34. Dixie running back Ran Sawyer recorded five touchdowns during the game, including an 85-yard rushing score. Cedar's scoring included a 64-yard touchdown pass from Everett Kelling to Krew Giles, a 9-yard reception by Giles, a 1-yard run by Caleb Paule, and a 38-yard catch by Dylan Crowley. Dixie's defense secured the win by stopping a two-point conversion attempt by Cedar with 37 seconds remaining in the game.
Following the results, Dixie improved to 2-5 overall and 2-2 in Region 9. Cedar dropped to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the region. Pine View, which had a bye, is scheduled to host Crimson Cliffs next.
