The Pioneer Theatre Company production of Little Shop of Horrors offers a musical experience designed for a wide range of interests, from fans of 1960s nostalgia to lovers of comedy and doomsday theories. According to a report published Nov. 1, 2026, the production features top-notch singing and acting alongside an authentic-looking set.
Directed for the stage by Gerry McIntyre, the musical is based on the Howard Ashman and Alan Menken work inspired by a Roger Corman film. The set, designed by Bryce Cutler, depicts a late 1800s century brick flower shop in Skid Row, complete with a gritty patina of city grime and faded commercial signs to illustrate an air of decades of failure.
The cast includes Andrew Faria as the nerdy Seymour Krelborn, a low-paid flower shop employee, and Alana Saunders as his coworker and love interest, Audrey. David Benoit plays the employer, Mr. Mushnik, while Brandon Espinoza portrays the sadistic Orin Scrivello. The production also features a girl group consisting of Lauren Witmore, Tyler Simone, and Maya J. Christian, who act as a Greek chorus. The character of Audrey II is brought to life by the voice of Nicholas Ward and puppeteer Joe Gallina.
This production is a collaboration between the Pioneer Theatre Company and the Arizona Theater Company. The musical utilizes doo-wop music and puppets to tell a tale involving science fiction and Freudian psychology.
An ASL-interpreted performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 2, 2026. Remaining performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 7:30 p.m. Friday, and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
