BLUFFDALE, Utah, Oct. 7, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — The parents of a 3-month-old Bluffdale boy found dead Wednesday morning have been jailed for alleged child abuse homicide. Nicholas Patrick Romero, 40, and Christina Joy Patton, 39, each face a single count of child abuse homicide, criminal negligence/intentional/knowingly/reckless, listed as a second-degree felony.
Romero initially reported having two alcoholic drinks but later acknowledged consuming four to five shots of whiskey. 011, according to the affidavit. Romero told investigators that shortly before midnight, he prepared a bottle of formula, swaddled the baby and placed him in a Boppy-type pillow between the parents.

Carl Hamer, Bluffdale Police, told reporters at the scene. “Upon arrival with our Bluffdale Fire Department, the infant was located, and sadly enough, the infant was pronounced deceased.
