Utah has begun receiving power from the first utility-scale, next-generation geothermal plant of its kind at the Cape Station project in Beaver County. The facility uses enhanced geothermal systems to provide reliable electricity as demand increases due to the artificial intelligence boom.

A flood watch remains in effect for much of southern and eastern Utah through Tuesday evening, Sept. 29, 2026, as heavy rainfall continues to threaten low-lying areas. The National Weather Service warns that saturated ground and recent burn scars increase the risk of flash flooding in locations such as Zion National Park and Capitol Reef National Park.
