The Air Force announced Wednesday that the Hill Air Force Base Restoration Advisory Board will hold its next public meeting on July 3, 2026, as part of an ongoing effort to involve local residents and stakeholders in environmental cleanup decisions.
Hill AFB Board Mission and Meetings
The Hill Air Force Base Restoration Advisory Board (RAB) is scheduled to meet again on October 29, 2026. These meetings are held at the Sunset City Building, located at 200 West 1300 North in Sunset, Utah, starting at 6:30 p.m.
According to a press release from Hill Air Force Base, the board functions as a vital partnership between the installation and the local community. The group brings together city leaders, residents, special interest groups, and base officials to facilitate open conversations regarding environmental restoration work conducted at the base.
Roles of Board Members
The Hill AFB RAB has been in operation since 1995, providing a platform for local voices to play a meaningful role in environmental protection. Members of the board are tasked with representing the interests and concerns of the communities surrounding the base.
Board members participate by attending quarterly public meetings and reviewing comments on cleanup plans for restoration sites managed under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). Community members who serve on the board do so through a two-year volunteer term and must be voted in by the RAB.
Utah Test and Training Range Oversight
The Air Force also maintains a separate Restoration Advisory Board for the Utah Test and Training Range (UTTR). This board is specifically structured to address the unique environmental management needs of the remote range located in Utah’s West Desert.
The UTTR RAB brings together regulatory agencies, local governments, public interest groups, and Air Force officials. Unlike the quarterly Hill AFB meetings, the UTTR RAB meets up to twice a year. These sessions are open to the public, though specific dates and locations may vary.
UTTR Regulatory Framework
Meetings for the UTTR RAB are primarily held at the Tooele County Emergency Management (TCEM) Building, located at 15 East 100 South in Tooele, Utah, typically starting at 10:00 a.m. The scope of the UTTR board includes reviewing and discussing sites managed under several regulatory frameworks, including the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP), as well as CERCLA.
Organizational representatives for the UTTR RAB are appointed by their respective constituencies, while community members serve two-year volunteer terms after being voted in by the board.
Community Application Process
The Air Force is currently accepting applications for both Restoration Advisory Boards on a year-round basis. The Air Force maintains these applications on file to fill future openings as they arise.
The agency stated that community perspective is crucial to the success of these programs and encouraged individuals with an interest in public service, environmental topics, or community representation to apply.
