Lone Peak High School secured its fourth 6A girls soccer state championship with a 3-0 shutout victory over Davis on Friday, Oct. 23, at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, capping a 17-game winning streak that transformed a difficult season start into a historic turnaround.
A Dramatic Season Turnaround
The championship win marked a significant recovery for the Knights program, which finished the season with an 18-3 record. After opening the 2026 season with three consecutive losses to Park City, Green Canyon, and Crimson Cliffs, the team went undefeated through the remainder of their schedule, including an 8-0 run in Region 3 play, according to the Alpine-Highland-Lehi Tribune.
Sophomore midfielder Katherine Mason opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, sending a shot from approximately 30 yards out over the Davis goalkeeper. This marked Mason's sixth goal of the season. The score remained 1-0 through halftime before the Knights extended their lead in the second half.
Championship Match Details
In the 59th minute, senior Sadie Stratton dribbled past a Davis center back and fired a shot that required a diving save from the goalkeeper. Freshman Kami McMurtrey was able to pounce on the rebound to increase the lead to 2-0. McMurtrey, who has scored four goals this season—all within the final month—also contributed goals in both the semifinals and the championship match.
Stratton added the final goal of the match in the 73rd minute to secure the 3-0 victory. This win marked the third consecutive shutout for the Knights during the state bracket, as previously reported by the Deseret News.
Coaching and Tactical Shifts
Lone Peak head coach Shantel Jolley, who has been the sideline coach for all four of the school's state titles, noted that the team's growth was vital. The roster featured only a handful of returning starters from the 2025 squad that lost to Syracuse in the championship game.
Stratton credited the team's success to a tactical shift, noting that the squad moved from a 4-3-3 formation to a 4-4-2 diamond after the first four games of the season. This change proved pivotal, as the Knights went unbeaten from the point of the switch onward.
The Playoff Path
The path to the title included a difficult first-round match against No. 16 seed Skyridge. The Knights trailed 2-0 at halftime but rallied to force overtime, eventually winning the game in a shootout. Following that victory, Lone Peak defeated Layton 4-0 in the quarterfinals and American Fork 3-0 in the semifinal held on Oct. 19.
Program Milestones
During their 17-game winning streak, the Knights outscored opponents 53-20 and recorded nine shutouts. This championship marks the fourth consecutive year that Lone Peak has appeared in the 6A championship game.
Coach Jolley remarked on the team's development following the victory, stating, "It was so much fun to see them grow from where we started to now."
Final Reflections
The victory concludes a season defined by early struggles and late-season dominance. After the final whistle at Zions Bank Stadium, team captain Hannah Jackman embraced Jolley to celebrate the school's latest state soccer title.
