SLCPD Arrest Man for Homicide
SALT LAKE CITY — Detectives with the Salt Lake City Police Department’s Homicide Squad arrested a 47-year-old man accused of murder and obstruction of justice following a homicide investigation near 760 North Redwood Road.
This investigation started at 1:05 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, when officers were dispatched to an apartment. The caller told SLC911 his roommate had locked him out of the apartment.
When officers arrived, they found the body of a man on the ground outside the apartment. Officers attempted to provide aid, but the man died on scene. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Kade Tuttle.
Officers could see someone inside the apartment, but that person refused to come outside. After several hours of negotiation with the Salt Lake City Police Department SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiation Team the person inside the apartment, later identified as 47-year-old James Riedman, surrendered.
During an interview with Riedman detectives learned Riedman was upset with Tuttle as he believed he was taking advantage of him.
Riedman indicated he had locked Tuttle out of the apartment and refused to let Tuttle in. Riedman was afraid Tuttle was going to come in and harm him, so he retrieved a gun, pointed it at the door and fired a round through the door to scare Tuttle.
The round struck Tuttle killing him.
Riedman was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail charges of murder and obstruction of justice.
Charges are only allegations, and every arrested person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
