KANAB — Taffy Loveless, wife of the Kane County Hospital CEO, has reached a significant milestone by becoming the first patient to complete 12 rounds of chemotherapy at the rural facility. Her 12-week journey serves as an example of local healthcare capabilities and community support.
After receiving a breast cancer diagnosis, Loveless chose to undergo her treatment at Kane County Hospital rather than traveling to St. George. This decision eliminated the need for a three-hour round trip that was previously required for tests and treatments not available in Kanab.
During the past three months, the treatment required weekly chemotherapy appointments and blood work. Avoiding the long commute reduced the physical burden on Loveless during periods of exhaustion and lessened the stress on her family members who previously accompanied her on the trips.
Loveless described the experience with the hospital's healthcare professionals as being provided by a knowledgeable, well-trained, and compassionate team. She stated that the process felt like spending time with friends and made the chemotherapy seem effortless.
