Summit County Library announced plans for a move to a new Kimball Junction Library. The transition involved several key dates and a community-focused initiative to reduce the number of items requiring transport during the relocation process.
The relocation process began with a Check Out the Move promotion between August 1 and August 15. During this period, patrons were encouraged to borrow books, movies, games, and other materials to decrease the volume of items needing to be moved. Items checked out during this promotion received extended due dates into October. Patrons also had the opportunity to receive a free Check Out the Move tote bag and a commemorative sticker while supplies lasted.
The Kimball Junction Branch closed on August 16 to allow staff to begin packing, shelving, and moving into the new building. Moving activities continued through September 13. During this transition, the Coalville and Kamas branches remained open, and the digital library remained available 24/7. The Bookmobile also provided service to assist with holds and browsing.
The new Kimball Junction Library officially opened to the public on Monday, September 14. A grand opening event and Book Brigade were scheduled for Saturday, October 3 to celebrate the new space with the community.
The Book Brigade was designed as a symbolic event where a human chain would pass specially chosen books from the old Kimball Junction Library to its new location. This event was intended to celebrate the community's role in the library's history and its new chapter.
