The Provo City School District Board of Education received updates regarding construction at the former Dixon Middle School site and Timpview High School during a study session held on September 8, 2026.
Regarding the former Dixon Middle School site, demolition of the building was mostly complete, with only a small amount of concrete and curbing remaining to be hauled away. Crews planned to move heavy equipment off the property by the end of the week and intended to recycle concrete from the school for use as base material. A geotechnical report is expected within one to two weeks to determine the required depth for that base. Additionally, the project team is investigating standing water in the excavated site to determine if it is caused by groundwater or an existing storm-drain line. The district and Provo City's arborist are also reviewing trees along neighboring properties to decide which can remain and which must be removed to avoid conflicts with water lines and infrastructure.
Planning for the new elementary school at the Dixon site continues in coordination with Provo City and the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management. Bid plans are scheduled for release around December 2026, with construction targeted to begin in February 2027. The Board plans to review exterior renderings as they become available during future meetings.
At Timpview High School, concrete footings and foundation walls are being installed around the main building. Masonry work was scheduled to begin during the week of September 14, and the first concrete slab pour was scheduled for September 9. Westland's crane safety plan ensures that lifted loads are kept away from the school building. The crane is designed to allow its boom to rotate with the wind when unattended to reduce wind pressure. Additionally, the commons and cafeteria are now complete and open for use. While the south retaining wall is undergoing backfilling and masonry work, the new sidewalk beside the wall remains open for football games.
