An outbreak of Salmonella and Shiga toxin-producing E. coli has sickened 55 people across 15 states, according to a report published August 21, 2026. The illnesses are linked to alfalfa sprouts grown by Everything Sprouts, LLC of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and sold under the Calco and Everything Sprouts brand names.
The outbreak involves four different organisms, including Salmonella Agona and three serogroups of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli. Two individuals have been infected with both pathogens. Illness onset dates range from May 31 through August 8, 2026, with a significant majority of cases occurring between July 5 and August 1.
Minnesota and Wisconsin account for 38 of the 55 cases, representing 69 percent of the total. Other states with reported cases include Florida, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Washington. Four people have been hospitalized, and no deaths have been reported as of the August 21 report.
While the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recommended that Everything Sprouts, LLC recall the sprouts, no recall has been issued as of the publication date. Because no recall has been issued, there are no lot codes, best-by dates, or package photographs available to identify the specific product. The FDA began an inspection and sampling at the Minneapolis plant on August 19, 2026.
Marler Clark, The Food Safety Law Firm, is investigating the outbreak and is available to represent individuals sickened by Calco or Everything Sprouts alfalfa sprouts. The firm is examining how the sprouts were grown and sold, as well as the company's regulatory history, noting that the FDA issued a warning letter to the firm in March 2025 regarding insanitary conditions.
