The Black Canyon Fire has been mapped at 43 acres in Sanpete and Emery counties. The fire was discovered on Thursday and was sparked by a lightning strike.
The fire is currently burning entirely on land managed by the U.S. Forest Service. To assist with the incident, the state has assigned two Type 1 helicopters to the area.
The Black Canyon Fire remains active across the Sanpete and Emery county lines.
The hotly anticipated return of the coal bowl between the Emery Spartans and the Carbon Dinos arrived in the Castle Country on Friday, Aug. 21, as the Dinos traveled to Castle Dale for a non-region contest against the Spartans.
