The Lehi boys track and field team secured the Region 3 Championship title after a competitive meet held on May 6 and 7 at Lone Peak High School. The Pioneer boys earned the varsity championship with 152 points, surpassing Corner Canyon, which finished with 144 points. American Fork followed with 94 points, ahead of Lone Peak with 89 and Skyridge with 54.
On the girls' side, Lehi took third place with 92 points. Corner Canyon won the girls' portion with 162 points, followed by American Fork with 119, Lone Peak with 91, and Skyridge with 76. In the combined standings, Corner Canyon led with 306 points, while Lehi placed second with 244 points.
The Pioneer boys' success was driven by strong performances in hurdles and relays. Senior Carson Howard won the 300-meter hurdles in 40.28 seconds and took silver in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.20 seconds, both qualifying him for state. Sophomore Aiden Whiting earned bronze in the 300m hurdles with a personal best of 40.82 seconds and finished fifth in the 110m hurdles.
In relay events, the boys 4x200m team won the Region 3 title with a time of 1:28.50, featuring Carter Cutler, Ryan Hemingway, Matthew Heap, and Cameron Wren. The 4x100m team took bronze in 42.77 seconds, while the 4x400m squad finished second in 3:24.68.
Distance events also provided significant points for Lehi. Junior Luke Shumway won the 1600m in 4:27.64 and earned silver in the 3200m. Junior Everett Quist won the 3200m title with a time of 9:36.23 and placed fourth in the 1600m. For the girls, sophomore Laney Martin won the 3200m gold with a time of 11:26.14.
Field events featured standout performances from Jaden Daw, who won the long jump with a personal best of 22-3.25 feet, and Ryan Hemingway, who placed fourth in the long jump with a mark of 21-4.5 feet. In the throws, Sterling Fillmore took bronze in the discus with 134-11.75 feet.
The Lehi track and field program will now focus on the 6A Utah State Championship meet scheduled for May 14 and 16. The competition will take place at BYU’s Clarence F. Robison Track & Field Complex.
