Jaxon Kohler, a big man from American Fork, Utah, has committed to play for BYU, according to a August 21 report. Kohler joins the Cougars after spending four seasons at Michigan State under coach Tom Izzo.
Kohler appeared in 127 games for the Spartans and was part of an Elite 8 run during the 2024-25 season. He enters the program coming off a season where he averaged 12.5 points and 8.9 rebounds, while shooting 50% from the field and 39% from three. His performance earned him an All-Big 10 honorable mention.
Kohler's eligibility was previously considered exhausted until a preliminary injunction in California involving athletes from the 2022 recruiting class made him eligible to play a fifth season in 2026-27. This legal action stems from challenges to the NCAA's new five-in-five rule, which grants players five years to complete five seasons starting in the 2027-28 season.
The addition of Kohler, who is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, is expected to raise the ceiling for the BYU program. He is expected to slot in as the starting center for the Cougars in the Big 12.
