The Salt Lake City Council has welcomed the decision by Governor Spencer Cox to prohibit personal fireworks statewide through July 5. This action follows wildfires affecting various Utah communities and an increased risk caused by hot, dry conditions.
In addition to the statement on fireworks restrictions, the Salt Lake City Council adopted the city's $2.1 billion budget for Fiscal Year 2026-27 on Tuesday, June 16.
The approved spending plan focuses on core services, public safety, neighborhood infrastructure, and financial stewardship.
