The Town of Leeds released a newsletter on September 29 outlining community activities and municipal updates for the final quarter of 2026. The report details upcoming town meetings, seasonal celebrations, and significant infrastructure and development projects affecting the area.
A Rocky Mountain Power open house is scheduled for Wednesday, October 7, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hurricane Valley Fire Station 47 on Old Highway 91. The event aims to share information and receive feedback regarding a proposed 345 kV transmission line project. The current preferred route for the project is approximately two-thirds on private land and would require a 150-foot easement with towers ranging from 80 to 130 feet tall. The Town Council previously expressed a preference for using public land to avoid existing homes and active farmland.
Other community events include Ghost Nights at the Silver Reef Museum on Oct. 23 and 24 at 7 p.m. The Leeds Trunk or Treat is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 31, starting at 6 p.m. in the parking lot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Participants wishing to hand out treats are asked to arrive between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. The event will feature a chili cookoff, a haunted bus, and games.
Significant commercial developments were noted, including a purchase and sale agreement for two parcels of land fronting Old Highway 91. This agreement, involving the current owner of Bee’s Marketplace in Colorado City, AZ, is intended to bring a 50,000 square foot grocery store, a hardware store, and a lumber yard to Leeds. Construction for these facilities is expected to begin in 2027.
Regarding the SITLA Silver Creek Estates, geotech work has begun on the 45-lot planned development community located between Silver Reef Highlands and Bonanza Estates. Soil testing for septic systems and general soil testing is underway, with a Final Plat application expected later this year.
The Town of Leeds has officially been recognized as a Firewise USA community, joining Dammeron Valley as the only two recognized sites in Washington County. Additionally, the town will host a Tree Lighting and Celebration on Saturday, Dec. 5, with details to be posted on the town's website and official Facebook page.
Upcoming municipal meetings include a Town Council meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. and another on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 7 p.m. The Planning Commission is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
