Gala Dinner and Auction
On Thursday, Nov. 12, the festivities will include a gala dinner and auction starting at 6:00 p.m. at The Show Barn at Thanksgiving Point. Tickets for the dinner and auction are priced at $150 per person, or $1,200 for a table of eight. A Legacy of Tradition
The Holiday Quilt Show and Auction began in 1983 as a way for a dedicated group of women to honor the cultural heritage of quiltmaking. Over the decades, it has evolved into one of the last remaining all-hand-quilted shows in the United States. The event relies on hundreds of volunteers who craft handmade quilts to support the mission of delivering world-class healthcare to the Salt Lake Valley and surrounding areas.
Heart Disease Statistics in Utah
The focus on heart health for this year's fundraiser aligns with significant health data in the state. According to the Utah Department of Health and Human Services, heart disease remains the leading cause of death in both the United States and Utah. State statistics from 2023 indicate that 3.0% of all adult Utahns have had a heart attack, while 2.5% of all adult Utahns have coronary heart disease. Additionally, 2.3% of all adult Utahns have experienced a stroke.
Managing Cardiovascular Risks
Other cardiovascular health challenges persist among the state's population. 2023 data from the Utah Department of Health and Human Services shows that 27.3% of all adult Utahns have been diagnosed with high blood pressure by a doctor, and 23.8% of all adult Utahns have a doctor-diagnosed high cholesterol. To combat these trends, the Utah Million Hearts Coalition is working to improve statewide heart health by addressing barriers to resources and improving access to self-measured blood pressure monitoring.
Specialized Cardiac Care
The medical expertise required to treat these conditions is provided by specialists such as John R. Doty, MD, a cardiothoracic surgeon practicing in Murray, Utah. Dr. Doty, who has a 5.0 out of 5-star patient satisfaction rating based on 98 ratings and 4 reviews, specializes in procedures including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repair and replacement, heart transplantation, and the surgical treatment of aortic disease. His practice includes affiliations with several major facilities, including Intermountain Medical Center, LDS Hospital, and McKay Dee Hospital.
Community Quilting Programs
The Intermountain Foundation continues to offer community engagement opportunities through its 'Quilt Days' program. These quilting bees are held at the Intermountain Foundation warehouse in South Salt Lake on the fourth Tuesday and Wednesday of every month. These sessions provide tutorials on various techniques, such as hand and machine appliqué, binding, and border treatments.
