FC Dallas took an early lead with goals from Joaquin Valiente in the 17th minute and Petar Musa in the 20th minute. Musa added a third goal in the 45th minute to give Dallas a 3-1 advantage at halftime.
Real Salt Lake responded in the second half. Rookie Sergi Solans scored in the 38th minute to bring Salt Lake closer, and Morgan Guilavogui added a goal in the 50th minute. Diego Luna provided an equalizer with a header in the 64th minute, ending an 11-game scoring drought. However, Ran Binyamin scored a low-driven shot in the 91st minute to secure the win for Dallas.
Sergi Solans has now scored five goals in six August matches, leading the club's Golden Boot race with nine MLS goals this season. Morgan Guilavogui recorded his second MLS goal of the season during the match, while Diego Luna scored his first goal since May 9.
Real Salt Lake was scheduled to play in Orlando on Saturday, August 22. Following that match, the team was set to face Club León in a Leagues Cup Quarterfinal on Tuesday, August 25.
