The Wasatch County Library is hosting several exhibits, including a display titled An Exhibit Communicating in the Pursuit of Life, Liberty, and Happiness. This exhibit explores the Declaration of Independence and the communication techniques used during that historical period.
The exhibit on the Declaration of Independence highlights how the document summarized the colonists' motivations to seek independence from Great Britain. The display includes various communication methods such as song, music, maps, and the written word, while also making connections to Utah's contributions and modern technology.
Another featured exhibit is America250 through a Local Lens: Celebrating the Artwork of Fred Mertlich. Mertlich, an artist and former educator, has created over 500 illustrations of subjects including antique vehicles, barns, landscapes, and LDS temples. His work serves as a visual record of Wasatch County by capturing historic buildings and familiar scenes.
An art reception for Mertlich was scheduled for Friday, September 25, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Wasatch County Library. The event was intended to recognize the artist and honor his 90th birthday.
The library also maintains an annual Artist Call for Entries, which occurs from April 1 to April 30 each year. Artists wishing to participate must submit one application and review the library's Art Exhibit Policy and Exhibition Form.
