A fire burned in an old Midvale neighborhood between two homes, creating thick smoke that was visible from I-15. The blaze occurred near 3rd Avenue and Main Street.
Unified Fire Authority crews and other firefighters responded to the scene, where some nearby homes were evacuated. Resident Katelyn Johnson described hearing a large boom that was intimidating before neighbors began coming outside.
Neighbor Monic Cuevas stated that she initially thought her own home was on fire because her house filled with black smoke. She noted that while the fire was in a neighbor's backyard, it was spreading quickly.
The fire destroyed a shed and a camper, and the heat melted the siding on a home located just feet away. However, firefighters stopped the flames before the houses were torched. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains unknown.
