The Omaha men's basketball team is heading to Utah for its first road trip of the season to face No. 25 BYU and Utah State. The Mavericks, who hold a 1-0 record following a 73-65 victory over Mid-America Christian, will face two programs that both earned NCAA Tournament spots in the 2025-26 season.
Omaha's first test occurs Friday, November 6, against the BYU Cougars in Provo. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. central and will be broadcast on ESPN+. The Cougars, led by head coach Kevin Young, enter the matchup following a 94-83 win over Ohio State. Robert Wright III, a former Third Team All-Big 12 selection from Baylor, led BYU in that contest with 35 points.
On Saturday, November 7, Omaha will travel to Logan to face Utah State at 3 p.m. central. The game will be available on the Pac-12 YouTube page. The Aggies, led by first-year head coach Ben Jacobson, recently defeated Idaho State 94-58. Kingston Tosi recorded 26 points in his debut for Utah State during that victory.
The Mavericks' season opener featured a career-high 21 points from Cahmai Crosby, who also recorded four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Other contributors in the win over Mid-America Christian included Jonny Jordan Jr. and Deke Thompson, who each tallied 13 points, and Grant Stubblefield, who scored 11 points on 71% shooting.
Omaha's roster features several new faces for the 2026-27 campaign, including transfer Justin Bolis from Nebraska and sophomore guard Deke Thompson. The team also features 6-foot-11 center Heri Bukinga and forward Dace Pleasant, who previously helped Howard College win the 2026 NJCAA Division I men's basketball championship.
Omaha has not previously played BYU or Utah State. The program's only prior trip to Utah was on November 16, 2024, when they fell 79-73 to Southern Utah.
Both games can be heard via the Varsity Sports App with Gary Sharp on the call.
