Hospitals within the HCA Healthcare Mountain Division have earned multiple recognitions from Healthgrades for achievements in patient safety, specialty excellence, and patient experience. The division, which includes care sites in Utah, Idaho, and Alaska, saw several facilities honored for high-quality clinical outcomes and individualized care.
Patient Safety Excellence Awards
Four Mountain Division hospitals received the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award, a distinction given to the top 10% of hospitals nationwide based on patient outcomes. The recipients include St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City and Ogden Regional Medical Center in Ogden, along with West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
Award Evaluation Methodology
Healthgrades determined these awards by evaluating risk-adjusted complication and mortality rates from approximately 4,500 hospitals. As part of HCA Healthcare, these facilities utilize a federally listed Patient Safety Organization to strengthen clinical processes and share insights from millions of annual patient interactions to improve care reliability.
Outstanding Patient Experience Recognition
Two hospitals were recognized with the 2026 Outstanding Patient Experience Award, which identifies the top 15% of hospitals in the nation. West Valley Medical Center and Mountain View Hospital in Payson were named recipients. West Valley Medical Center was notably one of only 80 hospitals recognized for both patient safety and outstanding patient experience.
Patient Experience Survey Criteria
This award is based on analysis of Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey data, covering ten measures including care explanations and room cleanliness.
Specialty Excellence Program Honors
Ten hospitals in the Mountain Division also earned 5-star designations or awards through the Healthgrades Specialty Excellence program. Notable recognitions include:
