Layton Mayor Joy Petro is currently serving her second term in office, following her initial election in 2019. Her current term is scheduled to conclude in 2029.

Petro has expressed a deep commitment to working for the diverse and dynamic community of Layton, a place she has called home for over fifty years.
Regional leadership and committee roles
In addition to her role as Mayor, Petro holds several significant assignments. She serves on the Audit Committee, the Davis County Council of Governments, EDC
Utah, and the North Davis Sewer District Board. She is also a member of the Rotary Club and the Wasatch Integrated Board.
Professional background and expertise
Her professional background includes sixteen years at Smith's, where she served as the Advertising Director for the Southwest Region, and seventeen years as a Sales Executive for Quad. Petro utilizes her experience in planning, budgeting, forecasting, and negotiation to support her municipal duties.
Education and local involvement history
A graduate of Layton High School and Weber State University, Petro has a long history of local involvement. She previously served as the Area Coordinator for Layton City’s Emergency Preparedness program and was a recipient of the Ronald Reagan Community Award.
Community contributions and preservation awards
Her community contributions include serving as Chairman of the Board for the Layton Heritage Museum and volunteering during the 2002 Olympics. Petro is also recognized for her work in historic preservation, having received the State of Utah Excellence in Preservation award for restoring a historical home on Gentile Street.
