Lone Peak secured a spot in the state championship match following a 3-0 semifinal victory over American Fork on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026. A goal scored less than one minute after the opening kickoff proved pivotal in the Knights' win, according to a Oct. 19 report.
The early momentum was established when Sami Schiffman sent a cross to Macie Leavitt, who scored to give Lone Peak a 1-0 lead just seconds after the game began. Lone Peak added a second goal before halftime when Nya Piercy headed in a corner kick from Katherine Mason, resulting in a 2-0 lead. Lone Peak's Kami McMurtrey scored a goal midway through the second half to finalize the 3-0 score.
Lone Peak coach Shantel Jolley noted that the early goal allowed the team to relax and settle into their game. Senior captain Sadie Stratton added that the early score diminished the confidence of the opposing team. Stratton was involved in much of the action as Lone Peak controlled the course of play with few challenges from the Cavemen.
The victory marks a significant turnaround for Lone Peak, which began the season with a 1-3 record. Following those early losses, the team adjusted its formation and has since recorded 16 consecutive wins. In the first round of the tournament, the Knights won a shootout against Skyridge.
Lone Peak is scheduled to play in the state championship match this Friday.
