The Logan Municipal Council approved a 180-day moratorium on June 30 regarding the construction or development of data centers and data center power plants within city limits.
Purpose of the moratorium
This measure halts new developments for the duration of the period to allow for further investigation into the technology's presence in the area.
City goals for research
Logan City Director of Community Development Russ Holley stated that the moratorium will provide the city with necessary time to properly research and understand the impacts of data centers. The goal is to determine where these facilities may or may not be appropriate within the city.
How residents can participate
City residents have the opportunity to participate in this process. Input can be provided by attending Logan City Municipal Council meetings, where proposed ordinances and zoning regulations are presented, discussed, and voted on.
Council meeting schedules and agendas are posted in advance on the Logan City website at www.loganutah.gov.
