UDOT Region Three participated in the Construction vs. Cancer event in Lehi on Saturday, Sept. 26. Hundreds of families were given an up-close look at UDOT equipment and received hands-on lessons regarding roadway safety.
A snowplow from the Lehi Shed was brought to the event to allow children to climb into the cab and honk the horn. Shed Supervisor Kirby Peacock stated that participating in community events provides an opportunity for the public to see equipment up close and understand the technology used by operators. Peacock noted that seeing the size of the snowplows may encourage drivers to give operators plenty of room and be more mindful on the road.
Trans Tech III Tony Franco assisted children as they explored the interior of the large snowplow, which had been cleaned and prepared by the Lehi Shed.
The Region Three Zero Fatalities team provided interactive safety education through various activities. Mote Siufanua and Teresa Johnson assisted with the setup and transport of supplies. Participants engaged in a cornhole game while wearing impairment-simulation goggles with McKenna Brittain and Braiden Mendenhall.
Other staff members, including Nancy Lucchetti, Degen Lewis, and Claudia Ramirez Gomez, helped families select safety-themed swag and stickers. Additionally, Kelsie Taylor and Carter Olsen provided car seat checks to assist parents with small safety decisions.
