CORINNE, Utah (ABC4) — A new wildfire has erupted in Box Elder County, making it the third fire start in the last 48 hours. According to Utah Fire Info, the Chokecherry Fire is burning in Chokecherry Canyon near Promontory Point, in the Fort Ranch/Messix Peak area west of Corinne.
The Owen Canyon Fire in Box Elder County has stopped progressing, though officials report zero containment for the 20-acre blaze. Crews are focused on mop-up efforts and securing the perimeter south of Messix Peak.
A fourth grass fire erupted overnight in western Box Elder County on Saturday, August 22, 2026, marking the fourth blaze in three days. The Owen Canyon Fire, located near Promontory Point, is currently estimated at 50 acres with active fire behavior.
