Tooele City has announced regulations for Memorial Day decorations at the local cemetery. Decorations are permitted on the grass outside of the concrete border or lawn mower strip starting four days before Memorial Day and ending six days after the holiday.
Beginning the Monday following Memorial Day, all decorations in the cemetery will be discarded to allow for a week-long cleanup. This removal includes items located within the concrete border or lawn mower strip. However, flowers in vases are permitted to remain.
Rules regarding materials state that vases or trinkets made of glass, porcelain, or pottery are not allowed in the cemetery and may not be glued to monuments or markers. While porcelain photos and emblems or medallions are permitted, they must be permanently affixed to the monument or marker without interfering with mowing or grave maintenance. No other items may be permanently attached to monuments, markers, or the mow strip, and the use of wire, nails, hangers, steel rods, or tent stakes to secure decorations to the ground is prohibited.
The Tooele City Cemetery consists of approximately 23 acres of developed area containing 19,400 graves, with an additional 2 acres available for expansion. The cemetery is open 365 days a year from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The cemetery office is located at 255 South 100 East, situated between 200 South and Skyline Drive and 100 East to 200 East. Entrances are accessible from 100 East and 200 East.
