The Utah Department of Transportation is warning drivers to prepare for significant traffic disruptions across Davis, Weber, and Salt Lake counties due to upcoming lane closures and ramp shutdowns. These projects include work on I-15 in Farmington, bridge replacements on I-84, and an extensive improvement project on I-215 that is expected to continue through 2027.
Disruptions in Davis County
In Davis County, the Shepard Lane Improved project is causing significant weekend disruptions on Interstate 15. According to a press release from the Utah Department of Transportation, northbound I-15 between North Station Lane and Park Lane in Farmington was reduced to one lane for lane striping from 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, until 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3.
Following that work, a complete closure of southbound I-15 is scheduled between 200 North in Kaysville and Park Lane in Farmington, covering Exits 328 to 324. This closure is set to occur from 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, until 6 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, to facilitate lane striping and the installation of overhead signs.
The Shepard Lane Improved project aims to build a new interchange at Shepard Lane in Farmington to increase safety and reduce congestion. The project also includes improvements to pedestrian and bicycle connections along Park Lane, as well as the ramps associated with I-15, US-89, and Legacy Parkway (State Route 67). The entire Shepard Lane project is expected to reach completion this winter.
I-84 Bridge Replacements
Heavy construction is also scheduled for Weber Canyon. The Utah Department of Transportation announced that starting at 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, drivers traveling eastbound on I-84 near the mouth of Weber Canyon should expect daily lane closures through Saturday, Oct. 17. These closures are intended to prepare for an upcoming traffic shift.
These specific closures are part of a larger bridge project designed to replace two I-84 bridges that were originally built in the 1960s. During this period, motorists should anticipate congestion and must remain vigilant for slower-moving trucks navigating the steep grade in the area.
Salt Lake County Ramp Closures
In Salt Lake County, the I-215 West Improved project will trigger a series of extended ramp closures starting next week. Beginning at 4 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, several ramps are scheduled to close for approximately 20 days for bridge work. These include the eastbound I-80 to Redwood Road ramp, the northbound I-215 to Redwood Road ramp, the westbound SR-201 to northbound I-215 ramp, and the Redwood Road to northbound I-215 ramp near westbound SR-201.
This large-scale project involves repaving multiple sections of I-215, replacing 18 bridge decks, and repairing 12 additional bridges. The Utah Department of Transportation estimates that the work for the I-215 West Improved project is expected to wrap up in late summer of 2027.
Ongoing and Long-Term Closures
In addition to the upcoming closures, several ramp closures in the Salt Lake County area remain in effect. The northbound I-215 to California Avenue ramp is scheduled to remain closed until 4 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6. The California Avenue to northbound I-215 ramp is expected to stay closed until 4 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9.
Furthermore, the ramp from Redwood Road to northbound I-215 is currently closed and is expected to remain so through July 2027. UDOT officials reminded motorists that construction schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
