Alex Jackson Skaug, 19, of Hyrum, faces 10 felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor following an investigation by the Logan City Police Department. Investigators discovered explicit photos and videos of children on Skaug's phone.
The investigation began after a social media company filed a CyberTipline report with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding an account that uploaded suspected child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
According to a probable cause statement from the Logan City Police, investigators reviewed content from the reported account and identified several photos that indicated Skaug was the owner of the account. Police also used the IP address from the account to identify a residence where Skaug lived and where CSAM had been downloaded.
The probable cause statement noted that at least 13 files on the reported account contained CSAM. Some of these files utilized AI to remove clothing from photos of Skaug and other females.
Skaug had an initial court appearance on Wednesday and is being held without bail.
