FAQs

How was the search committee selected?

Members were appointed by the Utah Board of Higher Education. The committee includes representation from students, faculty, staff, administration, trustees, and the Utah Board of Higher Education.

What is the role of the BTECH Board of Trustees in the presidential search process?

Selected members of the Board of Trustees serve on the presidential search committee to provide institutional insight and feedback throughout the process. Along with the rest of the search committee, trustee members will help review candidates and vote to forward three prioritized finalists to the Utah Board of Higher Education.

Who makes the final decision?

The Utah Board of Higher Education will select the next president from three prioritized finalists recommended by the BTECH Presidential Search Committee.

Why is most of the process confidential?

The search process, including information about candidates, search committee meetings, and deliberations, is confidential by law in order to attract the most robust and competitive pool of candidates. This approach reflects common practice in presidential searches nationwide, as sitting presidents and other senior leaders often decline to participate in open processes due to the professional risks of being publicly identified as an unsuccessful candidate. Maintaining confidentiality helps ensure the college can recruit the strongest possible candidates.

What is the Utah Board of Higher Education?

The Utah Board of Higher Education is the governing body for the Utah System of Higher Education. The Utah Legislature grants it the authority to oversee and regulate the System’s public colleges and universities, including Bridgerland Technical College. The Board’s responsibilities include selecting and evaluating institutional presidents, setting policy, reviewing programs and degrees, approving institutional missions, and submitting a unified higher education budget request to the Governor and State Legislature. The Board is composed of Utah citizens appointed by the Governor, including one student member.
